January 2008: IOSD delegation participates in ICCI Conference

IOSD Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali and Assistant Secretary General Shah Anwar Ahmed attended the annual ICCI conference held this year in Doha, Qatar. Secretary General Ali presented the extended Euclid Phase 2 initiative and gave a report of Euclid's achievement in 2005-2007. The Secretary General met with the Minister of Education of Qatar as well as with many other senior government officials.

December 2007: Euclid MOU is introduced

A simplified and narrowly focused educational MOU has been announced that is expected to meet the approval of past and future partners interested in an education-only platform on the model of ERA.int.

IOSD and Eritrea sign educational and developmental partnership MOU

The Secretariat-General announced today that Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali of IOSD and H.E. Osman Mohammed Saleh, Minister of Education (outgoing, incoming Minister of Foreign Affairs) have approved the standard multilateral Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to Eritrea's participation in the IOSD partnership.

Several employees of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are already taking advantages of special educational programs.

IOSD also expresses gratitude to the Teaching Company for the generous supply of educational courses sent for use in Eritrea.


OIC Intergovernmental Journal features IOSD and Euclid University Consortium / Extension

The April-June 2007 edition of the Journal of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, a major 57 member-state intergovernmental organization, featured a photograph of the ICCI/IOSD agreement signature along with details on the scholarship provisions.

IODS participates in Nigerian elections as accredited observer

Dr. Timothy Ihemadu, IOSD delegate in Nigeria, headed the accredited observer corps at the recent presidential elections and will report the mission's observations to international authorities according to regulations.

February 10-20, 2007

IOSD Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali held a series of meetings during the month of February, notably with with the H.E. Khusro Bakhtiyar, Minister of State on Foreign Affairs Government of Pakistan (right) and the Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Government of Pakistan (left) (photo below). Mr. Ali also meet with the ambassadors of Yemen and Morocco, as well as with the General Consul of the Kyrgyz Republic, to discuss the IOSD cooperation framework for the next 5 years.

In Washington, D.C., Deputy Secretary-General Vince Sinning held a briefing meeting with H.E. Ambassador Emmanuel Touaboy, High Steward of the Euclid University Consortium.


IODS SG attends intergovernmental conference; signs landmark agreement with ICCI

Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali attended ICCI's intergovernmental conference “Partners in Social and Economic Development” in Malaysia, from Dec. 8-10, 2006. On this occasion, the Secretary-General signed a landmark cooperative agreement with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a affiliated institution of the OCI, a 57-member state intergovernmental organization. The agreement provides for 20 Euclid/ICCI scholarships and ensure the recognition of Euclid programs in OIC/ICCI member states.

The Secretariat General acknowledged today Ban Ki-Moon's kind letter personally addressed to Vince Sinning in his capacity as Deputy Secretary-General of IOSD and Principal of the John Jay School of Diplomacy and International Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea expressed gratefulness for the trust and support placed in him by the international community in general and by the Deputy Secretary-General of IOSD (in behalf of the organization) in particular.

IOSD announced today the availability of a Master Degree in Sustainable Development administered by its official educational agency Euclid University Extension.

IOSD Secretary General meets with Senator Nisar A. Memon (05/25/2006)

The Secretary General of IOSD, Syed Zahid Ali, met with Senator Nisar A. Memon in May to discuss the development of IOSD programs and initiatives.

Senator Memon, who is is also a member of the Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production, was briefed on the activities of IOSD and expressed his appreciation and encouragement for IOSD's initiatives in the field of education and direct relief.

Senator Memon also offered his support to the organization's development both internationally and in Pakistan.


IOSD announces CED^R initiative

IOSD announced today the creation of a specialized center dedicated to scientific studies and operational actions dealing with desertification and reforestation. This autonomous institution will work in synergy with Euclid University Extension and a group of African universities who have either finalized or announced their participation in the Euclid consortium.

CEDR is scheduled to being its activities on August 1, 2006.



IOSD and IPC sign cross participation agreement (05/08/2006)

IOSD Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali and IPC Chairman P. Amir Hassan announced today the signature a cross participation agreement between both organizations. IPC (International Peace Commission) is a global NGO active in Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East. IPC is a frequent participant at inter-governmental conferences and has been accredited by United Nations Department for Disarmament Affairs (UNDDA) as participant at the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) to negotiate an international instrument to enable States to identify and trace, in a timely and reliable manner, illicit small arms and light weapons.

By means of the memorandum of understanding signed between the organizations, IPC becomes an IOSD member accredited NGO and grants IOSD the status of partner organization.

Both senior officials expressed their desire to foster mutual support and cooperation in areas of common interest.


IOSD launch DirectAid Program (03/15/2006)

The IOSD Secretariat announced today the official launch of its DirectAid "I Support U" program. NGOs and donors are now officially invited to register.

In consideration of the partnership between IOSD and the University of Bangui as well as the need to accelerate recovery in the country, the Secretariat has confirmed its decision to focus on partnerships with Central African Republic based aid and development organizations.

ULI/Brussels and IOSD sign extended Euclid agreement

The Secretariat announced today that Dr. Karim Ouedraogo, Rector of the Université Libre Internationale (Belgium) has communicated to the Secretariat the approved agreement pertaining to the official sponsorship and participation of ULI and UL Burkina in the Euclid University Extension.

Mr. Syed Zahid Ali met with the Senate Chairman of Pakistan and third-ranking official of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Mian Soomro.
